Three [bong]s from Facebook

[bong] or [fob], it’s not what we want to see! Here are three problems I saw today. The second and third were uncovered while trying to understand the first!

[bong] 1 – random Facebook post order

Susan and I were talking about ways to help improve people’s awareness of  The Therapy Directory and when we finished she posted something on their facebook page ( The Therapy Directory on Facebook ). But we were both surprised to see that it’s not at the top of wall.  It’s actually third. the top 4 being dated/timed at: 12 November 2010, 7 February and 3 hours ago and 8 February. Posts appearing in a random order eh?

[bong] 2 –  Authentication error

While trying to reproduce the problem I created a new facebook account for the fictitious Chris Weeks – whose email address is cweec@cwiccer.com  (check out the website www.cwiccer.com ) and posted a message to Bobbing Wide‘s Facebook page.  Nothing strange there. Then a short while later, having done a search for The Therapy Directory I got this message.
What I was trying to do was to click on a link… but there were no links to click on. It was when I refreshed the page that I got the message.

[bong] 3 – then Facebook kept repeating itself

I left the window open for a while (well I was capturing the page so I could record the [bong], but I was interrupted by a [bong] from FireShot Pro (more of that later) and noticed the same post appearing over and over. Click on the picture to see the screen capture in all its glory.

Conclusion?

I now believe the first [bong] is an unwanted feature of the new page layout for Facebook fan pages; The Therapy Directory’s page has been upgraded you see. I’m less concerned about the others as it looks like the Facebook developers have enough on their plate right now. I believe the problem might be something to do with using two different Facebook logins concurrently on multiple windows opened in Google Chrome. Not the sort of thing most people normally… but just the sort of thing I do regularly. Also I’m happy to say that Sam the Social Sardine‘s page pointed me to the HyperArts blog post on Facebook’s New Fan Page Design. It was interesting, if somewhat worrying reading, with the FBML app pages being deprecated next month. And Suzi Buckley pointed me to a video explaining how to avoid spamming yourself. http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=1845912111527 but I think she meant this link http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=1845822669291 PS. If you were wondering what a [bong] or a [fob] is then you can find out more about them elsewhere on this website ( see bob or fob, wide or hide, bong or bong ) Both of them represent BADNESS. A [fob] is a failed [bob] test. A [bong] is the opposite of a [bing].
