And the Easter bong goes to…

www.Bobbing Wide.com (and www.Bobbing Widewebdevelopment.com and www.Bobbing Widewebdevelopment.co.uk ). They all exhibit the same problem. Actually I think it’s the [fob] that leads to a [bong] and not just a [bong] in its own right. Watch the slideshow. See how it was on the original site, how it became and how it should now again look. [slideshow id=1 w=551] When I first developed the Bobbing Wide website I used a CSS technique to switch the contents of a pane when hovering over a list item. You can see it in action at the Bobbing Wide archive When I redeveloped the site using Drupal I wanted to find a better solution that would not restrict me in the tags I could use in the ‘nested’ section. So I developed a View using the [bw_module name=’views_slideshow’] module and a Slideshow mode of ThumbnailHover that would basically do the same thing. The great advantage of this was you could actually select the section you wanted to view and open that up. So I could put links and all sorts of things into the Subsections. Now the original site was developed using some custom code that enabled me to write the content using PHP functions to generate the XHTML rather than having to mix and match PHP and HTML. When migrating the content I copied the custom PHP into the page sections and enabled the PHP filter. But somewhere along the way, perhaps during the development of the Drupal equivalent of my WordPress oik plugin, I rather messed things up. In fact, I broke each site as I hacked about with [bw_module name=’bwapi’] and [bw_module name=’oik’].  So when I finally got the site(s) back up and running – no more PHP errors I assumed they were working. Obviously not. The PHP code was failing to do anything (aha I’ve just realised why!) and all I got to see was (nearly all) blank space. So I’ve spent most of the weekend reworking the sections to remove the PHP, replacing it with straight XHTML. And I’ve now understood and investigated the problem, and produced a workaround only to create an even bigger [fob]/[bong]. And I’ve had fun writing this blog post.
