Popup or slide in content

My wife is looking for a plugin that will produce a deferred slide-in dialog with a call to action which then hides itself neatly away. There seem to be a number of them, performing different things.

Requirements

• Deferred appearance
• Partial appearance with option to make full appearance
• Ability to continue a dialogue within the popup
• Slide up from the bottom – allowing for a title
• Support mobile usage

Popup domination

I decided to invest some money in the popup domination plugin. For the following reasons

1. It’s not too expensive
2. It could be deployed quickly
3. I could look at the code to see how it did certain things

Having installed it into her play area, I noticed some problems with use of deprecated code. Not good, but I could live with it briefly.

Conclusion

If all you want to do is gather email addresses then this may be a reasonable solution. But it doesn’t satisfy her requirements to produce a popup that slides up from the bottom and offers other choices. Also, as the plugin name and marketing blurb suggests, it’s all about in your face attention seeking. We cancelled the order.

Not bad, but the only really useful bit was the option to display the content of a specific post. It wasn’t possible to customize the tab’s label.

Seemed to be too much work to make it do anything useful.

My solution

I developed, from scratch, a plugin that I can extend over time. The initial version has two basic functions

1. Deferred popup in a fancybox
2. Slide up
