How not to fix a problem with Slideshow Gallery Pro

Earlier today (11th or 12th Jan) my Slideshow Gallery Pro page stopped working. It started displaying a rotating circle and never populated the slideshow.

I tried a bit of problem determination on a local site – and got a different problem –  thumbnails not appearing.  So then I tried updating SexyBookmarks – since it told me it had a new version. Now that’s gone wrong too.

One day I’ll fix the problem but this is what they were supposed to look like.

SexyBookmarks before update

And this is what they look like now.

SexyBookmarks showing the problem

And the fix was…

After installing the upgrade – from 3.2.9 to 3.2.9 – I went to the SexyBookmarks settings, changed nothing and chose Save changes. Fixed magically But Slideshow Gallery Pro is still a problem.

Feed your Facebook page using RSS Graffiti

OK, so I’ve demonstrated the 3 step approach to blogging to Twitter and Facebook from a WordPress blog. Now how about the two step.

Setup

Set the Feed URL on RSS Graffiti to your blog’s feed.

Write your post (and Tweet)

  1. Write your post and publish – this should feed your Facebook page
  2. Tweet as before using the Twitter publisher Tweet button.

Can I share to my Facebook business page?

A while ago ( December 14th) I wanted to share some work that I had been doing on a new website to my Facebook business page.
But when I clicked on the share this link, I found that I could only share it with my personal Facebook page.

I wrote to the support team at Share this and they said… that the Facebook API does not support this.
So that’s a bit of a shame… however

ERROR: Twitter user not recognized

In my previous post on setting up Simple Twitter Connect (STC) I got an error message
ERROR: Twitter user not recognized

So far, I’ve been unable to overcome this problem. But I have done some poking about on forums and my investigation.
I’ve now managed to get a 406 Not acceptable message. I don’t yet know why but thought I’d document it anyway.

Text alignment – left, middle, right and none

As with images ( see Image alignment – left, middle, right and none) it is possible to control the alignment of text using CSS.  This post shows some simple examples of text alignment: left, middle and right. And starting with the default: none.

WordPress one-page Wonder- WoW -If I can do it so can YOU!

Susan blogging-   For £400

  1. If you were to purchase a WordPress one page website, what you receive is so much more than a simple one page website. I am totally the non techy partner in this company. I badger Herb, when I’m not busy multi tasking elsewhere!  so that I can help ‘the frightened’
  2. You can get into your site and alter it
  3. You can extend it
  4. Add little blocks of information [widgets]
  5. Have menu items
  6. Organise it
  7. Manage comments on them

If this weather continues I should be able to blog each of these in more detail.

Till later

Simple Twitter Connect plugin for WordPress

I recently installed a number of plugins into the bobbing wide web design blog,  including Simple Tweet. Having spent a very long time connecting my Bobbing Wide web development blog to Twitter I then turned to Simple Tweet. I gave up quickly when I could not find what to enter in the Callback URL. I’m now trying the Simple Twitter Connect plugin.

So far so good – it told me what to type as the callback URL.

So now is the time to see if it works.

I haven’t signed into Twitter yet so this could be interesting.

A short while later…

Well the documentation says:

  • Easy to install and use.
  • Modular. Only use the pieces you want to use.
  • Integrates easily into any theme.
  • Simple control panel, only has the options you need for the pieces you activate.
  • Secure. Uses the latest WordPress coding techniques to eliminate tricky security problems.

then goes on to list the…

Current sub-modules

  • Login using Twitter Credentials
  • Comment using Twitter credentials
  • Users can auto-tweet their comments
  • Tweet button
  • Tweetmeme button
  • Auto-tweet new posts to an account
  • Manual post tweeting
  • Full @anywhere support
  • Auto-link all twitter names on the site

But I’m none the wiser. Where is the control panel? Where do I get these plugins from?

Much later… DOH!

Well I’ve been going backwards and forwards trying to understand the “Whoa – what’s with all these plugins” FAQ item. There I am thinking ‘what bl**dy’ plugins. It didn’t occur to me that more than one plugin would become available when I activated it.

Well now I know… Now which of these plugins do I need to pick?

Simple Twitter Connect plugins Well, Simple Twitter Connect (STC) – Base is already active.

and it appears that what I want is

STC – Login, if only because I have this in my Drupal blog

STC – Publish

I’m not sure I need any of the others (yet) since I’ve already got Share buttons that do something similar for many more Social Bookmarking sites than just Twitter.

Right, done that. Now what are the new Publish Settings?

I think I’ll enable Automatically Tweet on Publish.

Not sure  I understand the discussion on using the Sign in to Twitter button.

Let’s give it a go first.

Sign in with Twitter

When I attempted to sign in with Twitter everything went as expected ( it was the same sort of stuff as when I did it for Drupal ) until I got this message:

Error: Twitter user not recognised

Undeterred I tried Twitter Publisher

WordPress Twitter Publisher The Twitter Publisher widget – which appeared in the right side bar of the Dashboard below Post Tags was pre-populated so I first clicked on Publish, then the Tweet button. I then got shown this (in a popup). I chose Connect.

Twitter asking me to confirm the connection

The popup disappeared but I don’t know what happened after that. Hold on I’ll just check. Back in a mo.

TADA – it worked!

Evidence that my post was tweetedNow to try posting blogs to Facebook… Drupal first.

Note to self: Can’t you write this up so that it makes sense to others who want to get their WordPress integrated with Twitter?

Plugins in a WordPress one page Wonder

When we first came up with the one page wonder package we created a special advertisement for it in the Women’s Wisdom website. So we called it a WoW.

… But we didn’t really know what the first W stood for.

Now we can announce that it stands for WordPress.  This post tells you a bit more about the WordPress plugins that we expect to provide as standard in your “WordPress one page Wonder” (WoW).
